Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor of Applied Avian Ecology to join our faculty in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment. The successful candidate will have a strong research focus in avian ecology, with a particular emphasis on terrestrial systems. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research addresses population and/or community responses to anthropogenic change, including landcover, land use, and climate change. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of securing extramural funding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, they will have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vibrant, externally supported research program, engage natural resource managers and other external partners, and participate in university service.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of Applied Avian Ecology will be responsible for:

• Conducting research in avian ecology, with a focus on terrestrial systems

• Developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in ecology and conservation

• Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research projects

• Collaborating with faculty and staff in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment

• Engaging with natural resource managers and other external partners to advance the department's research and outreach goals

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• A Ph.D. in Natural Resources, Ecology, or a closely related field

• A strong research focus in avian ecology, with a particular emphasis on terrestrial systems

• A proven track record of securing extramural funding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals

• A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Postdoctoral experience in ecology or a related field

• Experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students

• A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

• A proven track record of collaborating with faculty and staff in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment
