Assistant Professor in Coastal Microbial Ecology

We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor to join our faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of New Hampshire. The successful candidate will have a strong background in microbial community structure and function in coastal ecosystems, with a demonstrated ability to establish cross-disciplinary research partnerships and secure competitive grants. The position will involve teaching upper-level and graduate courses in estuarine microbial ecology, as well as developing and maintaining a high-impact externally-funded research program.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and teach courses in estuarine microbial ecology and other related areas
• Establish a research program that focuses on microbial community structure and function in coastal ecosystems
• Secure external funding to support research and student training
• Collaborate with faculty members from other departments and institutions to advance research and teaching goals
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and academic pursuits
Requirements
• Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., microbiology, ecology, environmental science)
• Strong publication record and demonstrated grantsmanship skills
• Experience in teaching and curriculum development
• Ability to establish cross-disciplinary research partnerships and secure external funding
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and service
Preferred Qualifications
• Expertise in microbial community impacts on ecosystem processes, including molecular and stable isotope methods
• Experience in collaborative research and teaching with diverse stakeholders
