The Patient Access Representative is responsible for ensuring a seamless patient registration experience. This role involves verifying patient identity, reviewing schedules and physician orders, and accurately entering demographic and insurance information into the electronic health record.
As a key member of the Sentara team, the Patient Access Representative will provide exceptional customer service, explain complex regulatory documents, and collect co-payments and deposits. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities- Verify patient identity and select the correct patient record
- Review schedules and physician orders to register patients for the appropriate service
- Scan important documents, such as insurance cards and ID's, and verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information into the electronic health record
- Explain and complete complex regulatory documents, adhering to all applicable privacy and compliance standards
- Collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances, performing transactions securely
- Provide exceptional customer service, greeting patients and families, answering questions, and ensuring patients arrive at the correct service area at the right time
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Two years of customer service and/or data entry experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
- Knowledge of third-party payers, ICD-9/CPT coding, and medical terminology (preferred)
