Job Title: School Counselor

Chatham County Public Schools is seeking a skilled School Counselor to join our team. As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in promoting student success, providing preventive services, and responding to identified student needs.

Job Summary:

The School Counselor will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. This includes developing and maintaining a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program, communicating the goals of the program to education stakeholders, and maintaining current and appropriate resources for education stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students.
  2. Communicate the goals of the program to education stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community/business leaders.
  3. Maintain current and appropriate resources for education stakeholders.
  4. Provide leadership and collaborate with other educators in the school-wide integration of the State Guidance Curriculum Standard Course of Study.
  5. Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals.
  6. Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career, and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
  7. Accurately and appropriately interpret and utilize student data.
  8. Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning.
  9. Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
  10. Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
  11. Implement an effective referral and follow-up process as needed.
  12. Accurately and appropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services.
  13. Provide appropriate information to school personnel related to the comprehensive school counseling program.
  14. Assist teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.
  15. Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
  16. Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program.
  17. Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.
  18. Conduct a yearly program audit to review extent of program implementation and effectiveness.
  19. Collect and analyze data to guide program direction and emphasis.
  20. Measure results of the comprehensive school counseling program activities and share results as appropriate with relevant stakeholders.
  21. Monitor student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and facilitate appropriate interventions.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of the philosophies, principles, practices, and procedures of school counseling, as well as considerable knowledge of standard research techniques, methods, and procedures. The candidate should also possess considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, as well as the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Terms of Employment:

This is a full-time position for ten (10) months, with a salary based on state and local salary schedules.
