Job Summary:

This is a unique opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in retail store operations and management. As a General Manager in Training, you will work closely with our experienced team to learn the procedures and best practices for operating a Goodwill retail store and production. You will be responsible for developing direct reports and others, driving results, managing diversity, and building effective teams. You will also be responsible for communicating effectively with customers, employees, and other stakeholders. Upon completion of the training period, you will be expected to demonstrate full understanding and adherence to operating standards in areas such as store operations, communication, company policies, register and cash handling procedures, merchandising expectations, and more. You will also have the opportunity to meet with home office positions to learn about their roles and responsibilities and how they interface with the field. This is a temporary assignment, and individuals hired for this position are expected to successfully complete the program in its entirety.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in assigned store(s) under the guidance of the Retail Manager, Production Manager or General Manager to learn the procedures to operate all facets of the retail store and production.
  • Meet with home office positions to learn about how each interfaces with the field including HR, Accounting, Marketing and Transportation.
  • Meet with the Training & Employment division to understand and appreciate the mission of Goodwill.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to drive results and improve store operations.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, employees, and other stakeholders.


Qualifications:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent plus two to five years previous retail management experience.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Basic math and computer skills.

Great customer service skills and the ability to handle customer complaints in a fair, impartial and professional manner.

Ability to exercise good judgment in handling day-to-day situations.

Preferred:

Bachelors degree in business or related field.

Additional qualifications may be required based on the specific needs of the role.

This is a temporary assignment, and individuals hired for this position are expected to successfully complete the program in its entirety.
