Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Athletic Trainer to join our team at Keck Medicine of USC. As a member of our comprehensive sports medicine program, you will play a critical role in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and management of student athletes' injuries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough pre-participation physical examinations, assessing range-of-motion, muscle strength, and neurological function.
  • Perform special tests for joint stability, posture, and other pathologies, and provide preventative measures such as bracing, padding, or taping.
  • Treat and evaluate injuries at practices and games, administering first aid as needed and working with physicians or emergency personnel.
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation programs for injured student athletes, providing daily counsel and treatment.
  • Evaluate athletes' physical condition, response, and progress, and discuss with physicians and Director of Athletic Medicine Operations.
  • Communicate with coaches regarding student athletes' conditions, provide referrals to auxiliary medical personnel, and coordinate treatment plans.
  • Monitor team practices, athletic equipment, and environmental conditions to ensure safe training and playing conditions.
  • Assist in coordinating medical coverage for team practices and competitions, and serve as liaison to visiting teams' athletic trainers.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and forms, complete injury or accident reports, and observe and assist with the fitting of athletic or rehabilitative equipment.
  • Collaborate with coaches to design specific and individualized conditioning, therapeutic, and rehabilitative programs for injured student athletes.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • Entry-level master's athletic training curriculum.
  • Experience in injury prevention, clinical evaluation, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning, as outlined by the Board of Certification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards for handling blood-borne pathogens.
  • Advanced proficiency in maintaining medical records, including Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
  • Ability to travel and work nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification from the Board of Certification (BOC).
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) certification.
