We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Specialist to join our team at Jackson Health System. As a Mental Health Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and support to individuals with mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate mental health activities
  • Complete safety checklists and monitor patient rooms as assigned by the nurse
  • Supervise patient activities and respond to patient demands as needed
  • Identify behaviors that may require seclusion or restraint and report to the charge nurse
  • Participate in restraint and seclusion of patients according to hospital policy and procedures
  • Complete 30-minute rounds and special precautions as per unit policy
  • Perform patient care procedures and duties as directed by the RN and outlined in hospital policies and procedures
  • Assist with orientation of new employees
  • Perform ongoing observations of patients and document process daily in progress notes
  • Ensure patient general hygiene needs are met daily
  • Monitor and document vital signs, heights, and weights as directed by the charge nurse
  • Manage patients during meals and set limits in accordance with policy
  • Responsibly monitor patients in psychotherapy and education programs and document significant behaviors
  • Assume responsibility for proper handling of patient clothing and property at admission, transfer, and discharge
  • Follow up on patient care responsibilities and assignments left from previous shifts and report any incomplete assignments to ensure continuity of procedures

Requirements

  • High School diploma required
  • 0-3 years of related experience
  • Valid Florida driver's license and chauffeur's license for positions requiring patient transport
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers
