Job Title: Instructional Designer

Join the University of California, Irvine as an Instructional Designer and contribute to the development of innovative learning experiences that enhance student success.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Instructional Designer to join our team in the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation. As an Instructional Designer, you will work closely with faculty members to design and develop high-quality online and hybrid courses that incorporate the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and learning experience design.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with faculty members to determine suitable pedagogical approaches and design course elements and layouts that promote student engagement and learning.
  • Assist faculty in implementing digital active learning strategies and embracing inclusive teaching practices to enhance students' learning experience.
  • Help faculty meet their pedagogical goals by designing learning experiences and identifying the appropriate use of learning technologies.
  • Work closely with the Digital and Online Teaching (DOT) team to design and deliver educational development programs within the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, generative AI for education, multimedia production, accessibility guidelines, and universal course design for learning (UDL) to ensure that instructional design needs are met.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.
  • 2+ years of experience as an Instructional Designer in a higher education institution.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles, learning strategies, and technical tools and platforms required to achieve engaging and media-rich online learning content.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as collaboration and negotiation skills.
  • Familiarity with ADA policy, copyright and fair use guidelines for online education, and experience in creating accessible instructional materials and web pages.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Quality Matters Rubric and/or OLC Quality Scorecard.
  • Experience in managing department communication on web platforms, blog, social media, etc.
  • Familiarity with generative AI for teaching.
