Job Title: Occupational Therapist

The Occupational Therapist is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for providing a comprehensive evaluation of patients and developing personalized treatment plans to enhance their physical and mental functioning in daily life tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct thorough patient evaluations and develop tailored treatment plans to achieve optimal physical and mental functioning.
  2. Perform patient treatment procedures upon physician referral, modifying treatment plans as necessary.
  3. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to determine rehabilitation potential and participate in discharge planning.
  4. Regularly assess and re-evaluate patient progress, modifying program goals as needed.
  5. Identify potential need for additional services and discuss recommendations with other professionals or physicians.
  6. Utilize various treatment techniques and skills to address diverse patient needs and disabilities.
  7. Maintain accurate records of patient treatment and progress, performing timely re-evaluations as necessary.
  8. Coordinate patient sessions and arrange for duty transfers in the event of absence.
  9. Provide instruction on the use and care of equipment and apparatus, such as wheelchairs, braces, prosthetics, and orthotic devices.
  10. Supervise and direct the activities of Physical Therapy Technicians, students, and volunteers.
  11. Fabricate splints and adaptive devices for specific patient needs.
  12. Maintain department equipment, reporting defects or problems to supervisory staff.
  13. Consult with other healthcare departments to coordinate therapeutic programs and communicate with physicians regarding patient progress.
  14. Teach occupational therapy techniques to students and share expertise with staff.
  15. Participate in quality assessment and suggest improvements as needed.
  16. Attend department meetings, conferences, and in-services, sharing relevant course material with staff.
  17. Accept rotations in bedside care, psychiatry in-patient units, and main clinics.
  18. Provide education to families on patient care, management, and precautions prior to discharge.
  19. Offer information on billing for services and equipment.
  20. Determine the need for durable medical equipment purchases.
  21. Maintain departmental records, charge slips, and daily statistics.
  22. Attend hospital mandatory in-service programs.
  23. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to interact with others constructively and promote quality in-services.
  • Ability to interact with and treat adults, seniors, and willingness to treat infants, children, and adolescents as requested.
  • Pier Diem: Varied with weekend availability.
Education/Experience:
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited college program in occupational therapy, B.S. in Occupational Therapy or higher degree.
  • Licensure: New York state license or eligibility for license.
  • Experience: Successful completion of orientation program according to department guidelines.
  • Certification: BLS (through the American Heart Association) required within 6 months of hire.
