Special Education Instructor Position, Competitive Starting Salary

The School District of Lee County is seeking dedicated Special Education Instructors who will guide students in realizing their full potential across intellectual, emotional, physical, and social dimensions within a secure and efficient environment that aligns with the District's objectives.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate or an equivalent out-of-state teaching certificate relevant to the area of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design individualized or collaborative educational programs that cater to the unique needs, interests, diverse backgrounds, and capabilities of students.
  • Contribute to the establishment of departmental or grade-level curriculum goals and assist in the development of a comprehensive plan for their implementation and assessment.
  • Create a learning environment that fosters student engagement and is suitable for their maturity and interests.
  • Direct the educational process towards achieving curriculum objectives, establishing clear goals for all lessons, units, and projects, and effectively communicating these goals to students.
  • Utilize instructional strategies and resources that are most effective for achieving specified objectives.
  • Regularly evaluate student performance and provide necessary progress reports.
  • Identify the learning strengths and weaknesses of students consistently, seeking support from District specialists when necessary.
  • Engage in regular consultations with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Assist administration in enforcing all policies and regulations governing student behavior and conduct, developing fair and reasonable classroom rules, and maintaining order.
  • Plan and oversee meaningful assignments for support staff and school volunteers, collaborating with department heads or grade-level leaders to assess their effectiveness.
  • Incorporate appropriate technology into teaching and learning activities.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records and reports as mandated by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Execute Medicaid administrative claims activities as directed in accordance with the federally approved School District Administrative Claiming (SDAC) Guide.
  • Uphold the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida and comply with all school and District policy requirements.
  • Support school improvement initiatives by actively engaging in school activities, services, and programs.
  • Recognize clear signs of student distress or abuse and take appropriate action in accordance with school procedures and legal requirements.
  • Establish a suitable testing environment and ensure test security.
