The Retail Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in representing the Morris Furniture Co., Inc (and Ashley HomeStore) brand effectively, ensuring a positive image of the company and our exquisite furniture, while drawing customers into our showroom.
This position may involve a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to visual merchandising, arranging furniture and accessories on the sales floor, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of shared spaces, assisting with customer pickups, conducting inventory cycle counts, tagging, painting, and performing general store upkeep duties, as well as handling phone inquiries and engaging with customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret CADs (store layout design maps), work orders, shipping orders, and/or follow verbal/written directives from the Visual or General Manager.
- Confirm the arrival of merchandise using company software to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Collaborate with the Visual Merchandiser to prepare the sales floor ahead of truck deliveries, allowing drivers to position new items according to provided floor plans.
- Adjust lighting for optimal visual presentation, which may require the use of a lift or ladder.
- Unbox, assemble, position, and make minor repairs to furniture, attaching identifying tags or labels in coordination with other departments.
- Transport, load, and unload merchandise to designated areas using hand trucks, carts, dollies, skates, and other appropriate equipment.
- Provide customer pickup assistance, utilizing company software to verify order details and ensuring excellent customer service throughout the process.
- Conduct daily cleaning and sanitizing tasks, including restrooms, common areas, front windows and doors, exterior entrances, parking lots, trash removal, and other store areas.
- Identify safety opportunities and adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Perform store maintenance tasks such as painting walls and tagging merchandise.
- Offer customer and showroom support, including answering phone inquiries.
- Additional duties may be assigned as business needs arise.
Qualifications:
- A safety-conscious approach to all tasks.
- A valid driver's license in good standing, with the ability to travel to multiple store locations as necessary.
- Capability to safely lift up to 50 pounds while loading/unloading furniture and operating powered equipment, hand trucks, carts, and other devices.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment where members may change frequently.
- Proficiency in assembling furniture and other merchandise.
- Quick hand and arm movements for grasping, manipulating, or assembling objects when handling, installing, positioning, or moving furniture.
- Previous experience working with powered equipment, warehouse machinery, and hand/power tools is preferred.
