Position Summary:

The Senior Vice President of Environmental and Safety Operations will provide strategic direction and oversight, ensuring the effective implementation of environmental and safety initiatives in alignment with regulatory standards.

This role collaborates closely with the executive management team and is tasked with the comprehensive development, execution, and sustainability of a robust environmental, health, and safety program.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Championing the establishment of a premier environmental and safety culture, empowering employees and contractors to prioritize safe practices and voice concerns.
  • Advising and mentoring business leaders on crafting effective action plans to enhance environmental, health, and safety performance.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of and ensuring compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Building and nurturing collaborative relationships with peers, staff, corporate safety teams, and union leadership to foster a culture of safety, compliance, and innovation.
  • Delivering measurable results through standardized metrics and audits to demonstrate adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Establishing a systematic approach for reviewing and reporting incidents, including thorough investigations and follow-up actions.
  • Implementing necessary environmental and safety safeguards to mitigate risks associated with operational activities.
  • Overseeing the performance and development of assigned directors, managers, and staff, while setting performance expectations and growth objectives.
  • Managing program budgets, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines, and allocating resources effectively.
  • Leading the development and maintenance of environmental and safety training programs, policies, and procedures based on proactive indicators.
  • Maintaining comprehensive records of environmental and safety activities, analyzing trends, and addressing noncompliance issues.
  • Providing leadership for the Labor Safety Management Committee and serving as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and legal representatives.
Qualifications:
  • Proven leader with a successful track record in operational safety and team management.
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in a related field, preferably within the electric utility industry, including at least 10 years in a management role.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership in environmental, health, safety, and human performance programs.
  • A strategic mindset focused on continuous improvement and safety excellence.
  • In-depth understanding of environmental and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to lead by example and guide teams through organizational change while fostering trust and integrity.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess complex issues and develop logical, fact-based recommendations.
  • Proficient in interpreting and applying relevant laws and regulations.
