Job Summary:

The Sr. Substation Engineer will be responsible for applying diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related fields. You will evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional renewable generation substation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of high-voltage substation projects from conception to commissioning.
  • Work with the Early-Stage Project Manager to support engineering requirements and scope with the Development Group.
  • Plan, coordinate, and complete large-scale or several medium or small, complex, or long-term project(s) within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
  • Develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.
  • Secure required resources and use formal processes and tools to manage resources, budgets, risks, and changes.
  • Conduct project meetings and be responsible for project tracking and analysis.
  • Identify issues and challenges, measure, and validate results, and implement solutions.
  • Provide information to internal and external clients on moderate to complex issues.
  • Create and communicate presentation materials for report out and updates with various levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Train, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record (EOR) for all assigned renewable generation substation projects.
  • Secure engineering consulting resources from a list of approved suppliers.
  • Coordinate with other project stakeholders to develop and secure a substation site.
  • Competitively source, select, and contracting geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services.
  • Coordinate the engineering deliverables in support of FERC Order 1000 competitive request for proposals.
  • Represent E&C's internal and external interests on assigned projects.
  • Support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation.
  • Manage all project long lead major material orders.
  • Support E&C Estimating with template update via project feedback, technical support, and scope modifications.
  • Work collaboratively with project engineering resources in various disciplines.
  • Ensure projects are efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely implemented in accordance with department process, procedures, industry standards, and policies.
  • Support assigned project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives.
  • Support Legal in any regulatory filings, depositions, and/or hearings.
  • Collaborate with component OEMs to enhance/adapt their designs to better integrate with NEE philosophies.
  • Conduct external research and stay abreast of new developments or innovative advancements pertaining to the project.
  • Provide coaching, leadership, and direction to project teams.

Requirements:

  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certified
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certified
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural engineering
  • 4+ years' experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects is highly preferred.
  • Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with a strong bias for action. PMP and/or P.E. in related discipline is a plus.
