Job Summary

RHA Health Services is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing educational services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health, and/or substance use needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the educational needs of service users and develop individualized educational plans.
  • Participate in the development of interdisciplinary treatment plans and work collaboratively with the treatment team to ensure quality services.
  • Design and implement educational training programs, including curriculum development and activity planning.
  • Conduct and monitor training and behavioral programs, and document progress notes in service users' records.
  • Develop and implement special activities educationally appropriate for clients on your caseload, and plan educational outings/field trips as needed.
  • Provide in-services to staff who work with service users on habilitation programs to facilitate generalization of training across settings and people.
  • Ensure the supply of educational materials for use in the classroom to meet service users' needs.
  • Work with representatives from other departments to address the total needs of each service user.
  • Assist in the implementation of programs developed by other clinicians, and follow Department of Public Instruction regulations in the development and provision of educational services.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Assessment system as assigned, and assist the nursing staff in ensuring the overall health care of service users.
  • Maintain harmony among coworkers, management, and service users, and serve as a role model for service users.
  • Ensure dignity and respect for each service user by honoring privacy and confidentiality, age appropriateness, personal appearance, and rules on interaction and choices when appropriate.
  • Complete clinical paperwork as required, and perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field in early childhood education, with a willingness to obtain Pre-K through 12th Grade certification upon request/and or as needed.
  • A valid driver's license may be required, with personal auto liability insurance mandatory if transporting service users in a private/personal vehicle.
  • Maintain the requirements for annual or 5-year cycle certification through the Department of Public Instruction, and maintain current/valid teaching certification/license, or actively work towards requirements for such as deemed appropriate.
  • Maintain proficiency in company-sponsored/required training, including certifications such as CPR, First Aid, NCI A, NCI B, CPI, and/or others as specified/required by state and federal standards/regulations and/or company policy.
Pre-employment Screening
  • Complete a criminal background check, name check in the registries (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities), and drug testing.
  • Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements, and proof of employment history or references (if required).
  • Positions that require driving: proof of driver's license, driver's insurance, and vehicle (if required for providing transportation for individuals).
