The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, under the guidance of the facility's physician, offers advanced nursing services and patient care within the medical program for inmates/residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care, including executing physician's orders, administering medications, and conducting patient examinations and treatments.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' clinical issues and healthcare needs.
  • Document physical findings, develop prognoses based on patient conditions, and collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals to create detailed patient care plans.
  • Recommend medications and treatment options within the scope of licensure.
  • Oversee inmate/resident hospitalizations and advocate for timely releases when appropriate.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of medical equipment and work areas through diligent supervision.
  • Support the monitoring of all required contractual healthcare services.
  • Foster positive working relationships with facility staff, nursing teams, contract providers, and external healthcare agencies.
  • Utilize established corporate and facility policies in decision-making while exercising sound independent judgment in fulfilling job responsibilities.
  • Regularly assess the delivery of medical services to prevent unnecessary use or duplication.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all medical records and ensure accurate documentation of services provided.
  • Monitor potential serious health issues closely.
  • Propose strategies for enhancing operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness in health services.
  • Audit pharmacy practices for compliance with formulary guidelines.
  • Adhere to all pharmacy regulations, particularly those concerning controlled substances.
  • Observe and document inmate/resident behavior accurately.
  • Be available for on-call duties as needed.
  • Provide health education and counseling to individuals or groups as required.
  • Analyze and interpret medical and technical documents, including governmental regulations and legal instructions.
  • Address legal matters related to healthcare services, including attending court hearings and reviewing cases of inmates/residents with significant health concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, and the public, especially in sensitive situations.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings to promote effective communication within the medical unit.
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary committee meetings to ensure quality healthcare delivery.
  • Conduct safety evaluations to maintain a secure working environment for patients and staff.
  • Assist in achieving accreditation for the medical program by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.
  • Prepare safety and incident reports as required and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Comply with all relevant regulations, policies, and standards.
  • Perform emergency medical aid as necessary during incidents.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships and manage challenging interpersonal situations.
  • Recognize and address potential disruptive behaviors in a correctional setting.
  • Ensure accurate medical record-keeping.
  • Analyze problems, gather data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Interpret a wide range of medical and technical instructions in various formats.
  • Stay alert and respond effectively in emergency and high-stress situations.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a degree and possess current licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner with training in family practice.
  • Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
