At Corecivic, we prioritize the well-being of individuals in our care. We are currently seeking Advanced Registered Nurses who are dedicated to delivering exceptional healthcare services within a correctional environment.

The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, under the guidance of the facility's physician, is responsible for providing advanced nursing services and comprehensive patient care within the medical program for inmates/residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver thorough nursing care, including executing physician's orders, administering medications, and conducting patient examinations and treatments.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patients' clinical issues and healthcare needs.
  • Document physical findings, develop prognoses based on patient conditions, and collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals to create detailed patient care plans.
  • Recommend medications and treatment options within the scope of licensure.
  • Oversee inmate/resident hospitalizations and facilitate timely discharges when appropriate.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of medical equipment and workspaces.
  • Assist in monitoring the delivery of all necessary contractual healthcare services.
  • Foster positive working relationships with facility staff, nursing personnel, contract providers, and external healthcare agencies.
  • Utilize established corporate and facility policies in decision-making while exercising sound independent judgment in fulfilling job responsibilities.
  • Regularly assess the provision of medical services to prevent unnecessary use or duplication.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all medical records and ensure accurate documentation of services provided.
  • Vigilantly monitor for potential catastrophic health issues.
  • Propose improvements for operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness in health services.
  • Audit pharmacy usage for compliance with formulary requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant pharmacy laws, particularly those concerning controlled substances.
  • Observe and document inmate/resident behavior.
  • Be available for on-call duties as needed.
  • Provide health education and counseling to individuals or groups as required.
  • Analyze and interpret medical and technical documents, including legal and regulatory materials.
  • Review and respond to legal matters, attend court hearings as necessary, and conduct thorough research on cases involving inmates/residents with serious health concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors, and the public, especially in sensitive situations requiring diplomacy and good judgment.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings to enhance communication and information flow within the medical unit.
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary committee meetings to ensure quality healthcare service delivery.
  • Perform duties in secure areas, including working rotating shifts and ensuring the security of the facility.
  • Assess and recommend safety measures to maintain a secure working environment for both patients and staff.
  • Assist in achieving NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation for the medical program by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.
  • Prepare and submit safety and incident reports as per policies; respond appropriately to serious incidents and emergencies.
  • Comply with all applicable regulations, laws, and standards.
  • Provide emergency medical assistance during incidents and disasters.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and manage challenging interpersonal interactions.
  • Be prepared for potential verbal confrontations from inmates/residents in a high-stress environment.
  • Take proactive measures to de-escalate potentially disruptive situations.
  • Accurately document medical care provided.
  • Identify problems, gather data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Perform basic mathematical operations and apply concepts such as fractions and percentages in practical scenarios.
  • Interpret a wide range of medical and technical instructions in various formats.
  • Stay alert and respond swiftly and calmly in emergencies and high-pressure situations.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a degree and hold current licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner with training in family practice.
  • Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
