Job DescriptionAs an Adjunct Medical Coding Faculty member at Sullivan University, you will be responsible for teaching and assessing student learning in a variety of settings. This includes face-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or HyFlex learning environments. Your role will involve delivering effective instruction, providing an environment conducive to learning, evaluating student learning, and responding to student inquiries in a timely manner.
You will also have the opportunity to engage students using instructional techniques such as collaborative learning, experiential learning, and/or problem-based learning. Additionally, you will participate in course and program level learning assessments, helping to define student learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, and suggesting changes to improve student learning.
Your responsibilities will also include working with the Dean, Department Chair, and/or Program Director to develop and revise course maps and selecting and revising course materials. You will schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, externship, observation, field experience, and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program.
Furthermore, you will participate in student retention efforts, reaching out to students who have excessive absences, documenting your student retention activities, and ensuring students are aware of University services that may be of value to their successful completion of their academic program.
In addition to your instructional responsibilities, you will communicate your availability to all students via email, phone, or other personal contact. You are also encouraged to attend graduation.
Required Skills and QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will need to possess a Master's degree in a healthcare-related field, as well as current certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and/or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P). RHIT or RHIA is preferred, along with 3-5 years of effective online teaching experience in a health service management program and experience as a biller/coder.
You must also have excellent writing and oral communication skills, as well as leadership, customer service, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines is also essential.
