ABOUT THE ROLE

VHB is in search of a Principal Environmental Project Manager to enhance our robust Site Investigation & Remediation division. This role will be pivotal in leading projects and collaborating with our diverse teams in New York City. The ideal candidate will possess strong market connections and will be instrumental in driving business development initiatives.

This position requires a proactive leader who can effectively manage complex urban redevelopment projects. The successful candidate will engage in collaborative efforts with our Planning, Engineering, and Mobility teams to address unique challenges in urban development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with cross-disciplinary teams to formulate innovative solutions for urban development issues.
  • Maintain and nurture client relationships to ensure project success.
  • Lead discussions with clients, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to ascertain their requirements and address compliance matters.
  • Prepare compliance documentation for environmental mitigation and remediation in accordance with local and state regulations.
  • Design and oversee site investigation and remediation programs.
  • Participate in professional organizations to foster relationships with clients and partners.
  • Identify new project opportunities and manage proposal submissions.
  • Analyze and communicate findings from environmental investigations.
  • Utilize technology for effective data management and visualization.
  • Draft technical reports and other essential documentation.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in managing large-scale urban redevelopment initiatives.
  • Comprehensive understanding of CEQR and SEQRA requirements.
  • Ability to articulate complex topics clearly to both colleagues and clients.
  • Strong familiarity with remediation programs in New York City and State.
  • Capable of identifying and mitigating business risks.
  • Independent problem-solving skills with a creative approach.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements at both City and State levels.
  • Quick decision-making abilities regarding regulatory matters.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated and adept at resolving challenges.
  • Extensive knowledge of site assessment, data analysis, remediation methods, and risk evaluation.
  • Experience working with contaminated sites and engaging with regulatory agencies.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • 11-15 years of relevant experience in site investigation and remediation, with a focus on recent projects in the NYC metro area.
  • Preferred: 15+ years of experience in site investigation and remediation.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory role is essential.
  • Master's degree is advantageous (may substitute for one year of experience).
  • OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER certification and annual refreshers are mandatory.
  • Professional Licensure or progress towards obtaining (PG, PE, CHMM) is required.
