Job Requirements:
While a CDL permit is necessary upon hire, you are expected to obtain Class A and any required endorsements or restrictions within five months of your start date. The Iowa Department of Transportation provides CDL training for its employees, including Entry Level Driver Training for those who do not already have the necessary qualifications.

Location:
Employees must reside within a 45-minute driving distance from their assigned work location.

Work Schedule:
This position typically operates Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the possibility of being on call 24/7 during emergencies or adverse weather conditions. Some overnight travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities:
Your daily responsibilities will include:
1. Conducting diagnostics on equipment and systems to identify and perform necessary repairs on hydraulic systems, including valves, pumps, and cylinders.
2. Overhauling components on both gasoline and diesel equipment.
3. Completing repair work and preventative maintenance on a diverse range of equipment.
4. Analyzing and diagnosing computer-controlled systems to determine required repairs.
5. Utilizing fabrication and welding skills.
6. Managing shop inventory and ordering necessary parts.
7. Operating computer systems and utilizing relevant software applications.
8. Maintaining electronic records related to repairs.
9. Prioritizing repairs to address the most critical issues first, in coordination with your supervisor.
10. Performing emergency repairs and working in challenging weather conditions.
11. Assisting with roadway projects, including snow and ice removal as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
1. Three years of full-time experience in automotive or heavy equipment mechanic work.
2. A combination of education and experience totaling three years, where 30 semester hours of post-high-school education in automotive or heavy equipment mechanics equate to one year of full-time experience.
3. Current experience in the state executive branch, including eighteen months of full-time work as a Mechanic Helper.

Additional Requirements:
Positions may require a valid Commercial Learner's Permit upon hire and the ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License with necessary endorsements within a specified timeframe. Candidates must also pass a pre-employment drug screen and comply with ongoing random drug and alcohol testing regulations.
