Job Title: Scientist

At BioPhase, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientist to join our team. As a Scientist, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and optimization of novel assays on our platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute mission-critical experiments to support the development and optimization of novel assays.
  • Independently plan, execute, and perform statistical data analysis of research experiments using immunochemistry, fluorescence/luminescence-based detection systems, western blotting, and other methods.
  • Develop and implement creative and practical solutions to a wide range of cross-disciplinary technical challenges.
  • Utilize analytical and statistical techniques to characterize experimental results.
  • Proactively troubleshoot workflows and experiments, taking ownership of results, interpretations, scope, strategy, and tactics at the project level.
  • Systematically optimize methods to maximize sensitivity and reproducibility.
  • Maintain clear and complete logs of research results in electronic form, following quality systems requirements; organize experiments and findings into databases.
  • Discover and identify novel science and technology processes that lead to increased productivity and results, and generation of intellectual property.
  • Communicate results and prepare research summaries.
  • Ensure laboratory activities comply with safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Provide training and guidance for junior team members.
  • Provide insight and strategy for achieving short- and long-term project goals.
  • Work independently, contributing to overall team objectives and influencing project goals. Collaborate effectively, demonstrating open-mindedness and flexibility, and encouraging the same in others.
  • Demonstrate team influence and scientific/technical competence in areas of expertise.
  • Set a precedent for being a positive team member, exercising independent judgment in creating and innovating methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Provide task/project leadership, guidance, and mentoring, maintaining equity and respect for all team members.

  • May be required to travel up to 5% of the time.

Requirements:
  • Typically requires a Master's degree in a scientific discipline; and/or a PhD in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prefer a PhD in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering or similar field, with 2+ years of experience in industry or equivalent.
  • Experience in blood-based assay development is preferred.
  • Expertise in the design and development of biochemical and/or immuno-assays is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with superior organization and observation skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of protein biochemistry (including antibody fundamentals and pairing)
  • Solid working experience in a wide variety of protein purification, detection, and identification techniques (e.g. Western Blots, microscopy, chromatography, centrifugation, enzyme assays, Bioanalyzer, NTA). Experience in cancer biology and/or exosomes is desirable.
  • Ability to learn and perform complex, multi-step procedures involving newly developed (RUO) software and systems.
  • Expertise in the application of statistical analysis and software (e.g., JMP, Prism, ImageJ) to drive decision making.
  • Ability to communicate research results in a clear and concise fashion in a team-based setting.
  • Desire and drive to work in a fast-paced, team, hands-on environment.
  • Strong planning, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and ownership regarding project deliverables.
  • Excellent work ethic with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • Demonstrates scientific/technical abilities with experience implementing innovative solutions.
  • Regularly collaborates with others and provides independent thought in suggesting and influencing design and research strategies. Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in depth evaluation.
