MUOS Laboratory Operations Supervisor
Basic Qualifications:
This role necessitates a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline, or an equivalent of four years of relevant professional experience. Additionally, candidates should possess at least five years of job-related experience, or a Master’s degree accompanied by three years of pertinent experience.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
A Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at the time of hiring. Candidates must be capable of obtaining a Secret clearance within a reasonable timeframe post-hire. Selected applicants will undergo a U.S. Government security investigation and must fulfill eligibility criteria for access to classified information. Due to the nature of the work conducted within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a Laboratory Operations Supervisor to join our Center of Excellence. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate directly with some of our nation’s essential defense services. GDMS professionals work alongside esteemed clients to devise solutions that empower them to undertake high-stakes national security missions. The chosen candidate will engage with collaborative teams to safeguard clients' information systems and their contents. In addition to a competitive salary and comprehensive health and personal benefits, the Laboratory Operations Supervisor will enhance their skill set by collaborating with a talented and technically proficient group of colleagues. The role also offers a flexible work environment where contributions are acknowledged and rewarded.
The Laboratory Operations Supervisor will collaborate with agile sprint teams in planning, developing, and executing System Demonstration test events while ensuring our laboratory supports all development and testing activities. Activities in our labs and test events are monitored by our customers and government representatives. In the testing capacity, the candidate will primarily focus on executing test plans, procedures, and test cases for comprehensive verification and validation of complex systems. In the laboratory management capacity, the candidate will oversee all equipment, configuration, maintenance, and operation of the MUOS laboratories. To fulfill both roles, the candidate must be detail-oriented, highly motivated, and capable of working independently or as part of a team. Given our fast-paced environment, Laboratory Operations Supervisors need to be self-driven to complete tasks with minimal guidance.
As a Laboratory Operations Supervisor, the candidate will need to quickly familiarize themselves with a defect fix or new capability, collaborate with development and agile sprint testers to create a system-level test, document the steps, prepare for the test, and subsequently execute the test for the customer. The system-level test or demonstration will include presenting the fix or new capability, regression testing of the updated area, followed by an end-user demonstration. The candidate will support various laboratory activities such as loading new software and keys, troubleshooting issues identified by laboratory users, and other tasks to maintain laboratory operations. The multiple laboratory environments must comply with all customer and GDMS safety and security processes and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of capital and Government-Furnished Equipment (GFE) laboratory equipment, ensuring safe operation and usage.
- Instruct team members on laboratory procedures, methods, equipment usage, and safety protocols while enforcing laboratory regulations.
- Procure, install, track, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise with laboratory equipment.
- Experience as a Test Engineer in the testing of modern software systems.
- Proficient in implementing test strategies, plans, procedures, and reports.
- Some experience in requirements analysis and testing systems at component, integration, system, and end-to-end levels.
- Experience in code unit testing, integration testing, and operational scenario-based testing.
- Experience in writing test cases and discrepancy reports.
- Understanding of the complete system life-cycle.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills that facilitate effective collaboration in a team environment.
Basic Qualifications:
The Laboratory Operations Supervisor position requires a Bachelor of Science degree or Technology degree or equivalent experience, along with a minimum of eight years of related experience. The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- A commitment to excellence and continuous learning.
- Flexibility and adaptability to change in dynamic program development environments.
- 3+ years of experience in System or Integration Testing.
- 8+ years of experience managing Engineering Laboratories.
- Experience working on agile teams.
- Experience interfacing with customers.
- Experience in high-reliability product development.
- Energetic and self-motivated approach.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of the MUOS system and specific expertise in at least one MUOS area: GIS/Core, NMS, RAN, RF, SCS, IA.
- Skills in automating manually executed tests.
- Experience in telecommunications or satellite programs.
