About the Role
  • We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Prisma Health's Greenville Memorial Med Campus. This full-time position offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
  • As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for conducting and supporting laboratory testing to aid in disease diagnosis and treatment. You will ensure proficiency and accuracy in all aspects of laboratory testing, following established policies and procedures.
  • Your responsibilities will also include operating computerized laboratory data systems, reviewing pending work, and ensuring proper retention of all specimens. You will also verify identification of patients, specimens, and results, evaluating specimen integrity based on department standard operating procedures.
  • You will participate in Quality Control (QC) and Quality Management (QM) for your assigned area, evaluating QC results for acceptability and notifying appropriate individuals of unresolved issues. You will also monitor supply and reagent inventory, using laboratory resources efficiently and documenting receipt and opening of supplies.
  • In addition, you will effectively operate laboratory instrumentation, identifying real and potential situations or detecting equipment malfunctions. You will investigate and resolve technical problems, consulting appropriate individuals as needed, and perform and document maintenance and function/operational checks on instrumentation.
  • You will comply with Policies and Procedures of Prisma Health, understanding and complying with standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies in your operational area. You will perform competency assessments as assigned, maintaining a safe and clean working environment and responding immediately to safety violations.
  • You will employ good organizational talents, prioritizing tasks appropriately, recognizing customer satisfaction issues, and responding or escalating accordingly. You will assume responsibility for operation of the section in the absence of a supervisor/lead technologist, instructing students, new team members, laboratory support staff, and hospital personnel in procedure, technique, and theory.
  • Furthermore, you will communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing, maintaining open communication with laboratory leaders, pathologists, and fellow team members. You will communicate pertinent information, including critical values, to other members of the healthcare team and perform required documentation.
  • You will promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and non-mandatory continuing education, accessing training needs, and participating in Continuing Education (CE) programs annually.
Requirements

An Associate's Degree in a laboratory science or medical technology is required. Past eligibility for MLT (ASCP) prior to 2004 or current eligibility for MLT (ASCP)cm or MLT (AMT) certification is also necessary. In lieu of the education and experience requirements, completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course may qualify with certificate instead of an Associate's degree (with MLT certification) or qualifies under CLIA (42CFR 493.1489 (b)(5)(i) and (b)(5)(ii) with education and experience prior to 4/24/1995 with Prisma Health laboratory medical director approval.

Basic computer skills, knowledge of laboratory and office equipment (fax/copier), data entry, mathematical skills, and effective data conversion are also essential.

Work Environment

The estimated annual salary for this role is around $55,000-$65,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
