POSITION SUMMARY

This role involves collaboration with the garden manager on various initiatives and support for the water conservation team in conducting site assessments for multiple programs, including the Water Efficient Landscape Rebate and Water Checks. Responsibilities include managing garden projects such as a water-efficient demonstration garden and landscaping for the District Office.

WORKING HOURS AND BENEFITS

This is a non-benefited, flexible position requiring 15 to 19 hours per week. The schedule is adaptable, primarily aligning with peak public engagement periods for conservation projects. Seasonal variations in hours may occur, with potential evening and weekend commitments.

SUPERVISION

Direct supervision will be provided by both the Garden Manager and the Water Conservation Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct pre- and post-visit inspections for the Water Efficient Landscape Rebate, which includes measuring grass areas and guiding property owners through program requirements to ensure successful project completion and compliance with rebate qualifications.
  • Perform residential irrigation audits (water checks) from May through September, engaging with customers in Washington County, Utah, and educating them on effective irrigation practices. Training will be provided for operating various sprinkler systems to assess water application, uniformity, soil type, and developing suitable irrigation schedules.
  • Offer administrative assistance to district managers, which may include supporting district events, handling product deliveries, filing, and other tasks as needed.
  • Execute basic landscape maintenance tasks as directed by the garden manager.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; AND
  2. Some experience in relevant duties; OR
  3. An equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered. Preference may be given to candidates pursuing a degree in water conservation, soil science, horticulture, or environmental science.

Skills and Abilities:

Applicants should be personable, self-driven, and interested in irrigation systems and controllers, with a willingness to work outdoors. Basic math skills are essential. Proficiency in using hand tools for various garden maintenance tasks, including digging, planting, weeding, and pruning, is required. Candidates must be able to work in extreme temperatures during summer months and handle conditions exceeding 100 degrees.

Special Requirements:

  • A valid Utah Driver's License and insurability under the district's vehicle insurance policy are mandatory.
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment drug test and a criminal background check is required.
