Position Overview:

The Project Engineer plays a crucial role in the realm of Heavy Civil Construction. This position involves supporting the Superintendent and Project Manager in overseeing various facets of construction projects, focusing on financial management, cost tracking, and on-site activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in pre-construction tasks such as planning and design, along with interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure a comprehensive understanding of project specifications, drawings, and the scope of work for subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Promote and enforce all safety policies and procedures within the company.
  • Interpret project specifications and prepare quantity takeoffs as necessary.
  • Create drawings and sketches to facilitate construction work, including change orders and estimates.
  • Verify quantities for invoicing and maintain accurate logs of submittals and shop drawings.
  • Ensure accurate completion of craft time cards and verify cost codes for all project-related expenses.
  • Maintain as-built drawings and manage RFI logs effectively.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and value engineering processes.
  • Develop and implement project engineering procedures and documentation tracking.
  • Capture weekly job site photographs to document progress.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Department to maintain accurate safety records.
  • Assist in quality control measures and project status reporting.
  • Support project close-out activities and provide assistance in estimating as needed.
Essential Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a four-year engineering degree or equivalent technical training, along with 2-4 years of relevant field construction experience. An E.I.T. certification is preferred but not mandatory. Strong mentoring capabilities, proficiency in reading and interpreting plans, and a thorough understanding of cost analysis and estimating are essential.

Skills Required:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
Physical Requirements:

This role involves regular physical activity, including carrying tools and equipment, climbing, and working on uneven surfaces. The employee must wear appropriate personal protective equipment and may need to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
