Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Support Specialist to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

About the Role

This dynamic individual will provide high-quality patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical staff/providers. The successful candidate will assist nursing and medical staff with procedures and/or tests, and patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Key responsibilities include specimen collection, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) catheter insertion, electrocardiography (EKG), and documentation in the health record.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with ADLs and personal hygiene, including bathing, mouth care, dressing, skin care, positioning, feeding, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities.
  • Assist with patient mobilization and rehabilitation, use of crutches and walkers, and transfer/transport of patients in wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Collect specimens; perform venipuncture/phlebotomy; obtain EKGs; apply electrodes and initiate physiologic monitoring equipment; and insert intravenous (IV) catheters, change IV sites, and dressings.
  • Accurately take and record patient vital signs, height and weight, pulse oximetry, point-of-care testing, and other pertinent information in the patient's health record.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant program and active CNA certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Nursing Student (RN Program) with completion of at least one year of clinical rotation or a graduate of an approved nursing program (LPN or RN).
  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification required.
Salary Information

The estimated salary for this position is between $19,347 and $29,109 per year.
