Position Overview

We are looking for qualified candidates for a Nutrition-focused role within the Women's, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.

SUMMARY:

This position involves assisting WIC participants by assessing the eligibility of applicants, delivering nutrition education and counseling, and facilitating referrals to additional health and social services.

The Nutritionist should possess the following competencies:

  • Understanding of fundamental nutrition and dietetics principles, both normal and clinical.
  • Capability to convey educational material using various methods, including written materials, presentations, and demonstrations.
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with anthropometric measurements and growth chart interpretation.
  • Knowledge of hematological testing procedures.
  • Skill in assessing medical and nutritional risks and analyzing individual nutritional issues.
  • Ability to explain public health nutrition policies and procedures to individuals and community groups.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of one year of relevant experience is preferred, or the candidate may work under the supervision of the Nutrition Education Coordinator. One year of graduate studies may substitute for the required experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be registered or eligible for registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, or possess at least a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution, focusing on fields such as food and nutrition, community nutrition, public health nutrition, nutrition education, human nutrition, or nutrition science.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Reliable transportation is necessary for consistent attendance. Candidates must be reachable by phone and may need to work at various agency locations without compensation for travel time or mileage. Adaptability to change and willingness to undertake additional tasks as assigned are essential. Experience working with diverse populations is required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts, including probability and statistical inference, and apply these concepts to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Capability to solve practical problems and address various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

FBI Clearance, PA State Criminal History, Childline Child Abuse Certification, and submission to the National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) are required prior to employment. A physical assessment, including a tuberculosis skin test, and completion of the Child Abuse "Mandated Reporter" training within 90 days of hire are also necessary. A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
