Overview:

This position requires a uniformed presence at all times. The Armed Security Specialist is tasked with serving as a visible deterrent to unlawful activities, ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and visitors, and overseeing the protection and surveillance of healthcare facilities, assets, and grounds as designated. This role involves responding to emergency situations, managing internal and external crisis events as necessary, conducting initial investigations of reported incidents, and executing additional security responsibilities as directed by supervisory personnel. Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to travel between various locations is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular security inspections of the premises and surrounding areas as assigned.
  • Monitor and report on security trends, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Document initial details for incident reports with proper grammar and factual accuracy, submitting them promptly at the end of each shift.
  • Respond swiftly to all service requests communicated through various channels in a professional manner.
  • Manage the collection, inventory, and return of lost items and personal belongings according to established protocols.
  • Enforce all organizational policies, regulations, and applicable state laws.
  • Oversee facility parking enforcement through patrols and issuing citations as necessary.
  • Assist clinical and non-clinical staff in managing difficult patients or visitors.
  • Exhibit competence in performing assigned duties in a manner that meets the diverse needs of individuals served.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating security systems, including surveillance monitors and communication devices.
  • Utilize computer systems to generate daily activity reports, incident documentation, and other necessary electronic communications.
  • Promote a secure environment by identifying and reporting safety hazards observed during patrols.
  • Adapt security measures to accommodate the varying needs of individuals served.
  • Uphold the core values of the organization in all interactions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all personnel, patients, and visitors, particularly in challenging situations.
  • Must maintain mental alertness at all times.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to make immediate decisions regarding laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Valid motor vehicle license is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with security equipment and protocols.
  • Frequent exposure to potentially aggressive behavior and emotionally charged environments.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous conditions.
  • Physical stamina to perform duties that include long periods of walking, standing, and lifting.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to handle personal stress and potential confrontational situations.
  • Compliance with uniform dress code requirements.
  • Preferred: Minimum two years of armed security experience or honorable military service.
  • Preferred: Experience in law enforcement or healthcare security.
  • Required: Level 3 Certification (Texas).
  • For Texas positions, an active security officer commission is mandatory.
  • Completion of required training and certifications within specified timeframes.
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment assessments and random drug screenings.
