Job Overview

Position Title: Direct Care Staff - Overnight Shift

Organization: Foster + Heart is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children in foster care throughout the Treasure Valley. Our aim is to empower our community to foster and address the needs of these children, particularly through transitional homes for youth aged 0-17 who are entering the foster care system. These homes accommodate up to 8 children and are staffed by trained direct care personnel who provide essential support during critical times in their lives.

Role Summary:

The Direct Care Staff is responsible for delivering the necessary support to fulfill the objectives of Foster + Heart concerning the welfare of children. This role requires availability for overnight shifts from 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized care to meet the unique needs of each child.
  • Monitor, document, and report on children's development, behavior, and needs to ensure their well-being.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to stay informed about best practices and policies.
  • Create a nurturing and secure environment through positive communication and vigilant supervision.
  • Establish clear behavioral expectations using Trust Based Relational Intervention techniques.
  • Understand and implement organizational policies and procedures in daily activities.
  • Facilitate health and nutrition care, including meal preparation and hygiene routines.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, and community members.
  • Keep supervisors informed about work progress and any relevant developments.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Accept constructive feedback and strive for continuous improvement.

Additional Duties:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and report any hazards to management.
  • Manage groups of children aged 0-17 effectively.
  • Prioritize and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Adapt to the evolving demands of the role.
  • Handle stressful situations with composure.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 19 years old.
  • Certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid is required.
  • Pass an enhanced criminal background check as per state and federal standards.
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance are necessary for local travel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and staff.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and moving are required.
  • Engagement in moderate to vigorous physical activities with children.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to moderate noise levels may occur.
