We have several openings for Laboratory Analysts within our Metals, GC and GCMS divisions.
The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for the preparation and analysis of samples with a high degree of accuracy and precision, adhering to SGS' analytical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role requires both independent work and collaboration with team members to achieve daily production goals while ensuring compliance with hold times and turnaround times. A solid understanding of fundamental analytical chemistry principles is essential. The Laboratory Analyst must consistently follow safe laboratory practices and contribute to a secure working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- After receiving appropriate training, independently prepare and analyze samples in accordance with SGS' analytical SOPs utilizing department-specific instrumentation and methodologies.
- Conduct routine operations, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Assist with validation and Method Detection Limit (MDL) studies as needed.
- Support the investigation and preparation of responses to client inquiries and Corrective Action Requests (CARs).
- Input and maintain technical information to support laboratory operations.
- Keep a Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
- Perform initial data reviews to ensure quality control standards are met and identify samples requiring reanalysis.
- Draft initial versions of analytical reports.
- Document non-conformances and engage Senior Laboratory Analysts, Team Leads, and Laboratory Supervisors as necessary to ensure effective resolution.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization.
- Ensure adequate inventory of supplies.
- Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
- Associates Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field, or 2 years of relevant experience in sample preparation (Required).
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a similar scientific discipline with 1-2 years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Preferred).
- A minimum of one year of professional experience with ICP instrumentation (Strongly Preferred).
- Proficient English language skills (Required).
- Basic reasoning and mathematical skills (Required).
- Basic computer skills (Required).
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull weights of up to 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required).
This position offers a competitive hourly wage (dependent on experience) and is eligible for overtime pay.
Additionally, the compensation package includes the following benefits:
- Participation in the Company's benefit programs coinciding with or following the first of the month in which you are hired.
- Immediate eligibility to participate in the Company's 401K Retirement Plan.
- Paid vacation, including:
- Four (4) floating holidays annually.
- Seven (7) company-observed holidays paid.
