Role Summary

Residential Youth Support Worker

Program: Journey of Hope Shelter

Reports to: House Supervisor

Hours: 6:30am-2:30pm (morning), 2:30pm-10:30pm (afternoon), 10:30pm-6:30am (overnight)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide consistent supervision of children in care, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Facilitate transportation for children to various appointments, educational activities, and outings as required by the program.
  • Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios, engaging in one-on-one supervision as necessary.
  • Encourage and oversee daily activities, fostering a supportive and trauma-informed atmosphere.
  • Accurately complete and submit internal incident reports in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assist in meal preparation and cleanup, ensuring a hygienic dining experience for the children.
  • Maintain cleanliness of living spaces, including laundry duties and adherence to a cleaning schedule.
  • Participate in the intake and discharge processes, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments regarding children's behavior and adaptation.
  • Support the training of new staff members under the guidance of Shift Coordinators.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and competencies.
  • Assist residents with personal hygiene and daily living activities through modeling and structured support.
  • Implement and model trauma-informed care practices.
  • Follow individualized service and safety plans for each resident.
  • Promote cultural sensitivity and acculturation among children.
  • Manage unexpected events and crises with a constructive approach.
  • Utilize effective de-escalation techniques to support children in distress.
  • Ensure confidentiality of client information and records.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary living environment for all residents.
  • Complete necessary documentation in compliance with agency standards.
  • Demonstrate accountability for the management and safety of daily routines and therapeutic programs.
  • Support compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and report any unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Exhibit appropriate professional behavior at all times.
  • Report any legal issues or investigations as required.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proficient in Windows, MS Word, and Excel; comfortable with technology.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Must possess Act 33/34 and FBI clearances along with a valid driver's license.
  • Minimum age of 21 years required.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions in accordance with ADA and other standards.
