The United States Capitol Police (USCP) is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the U.S. Congress, its legislative processes, and all individuals within its facilities. The USCP's mission is to protect Congress, enabling it to operate in a secure and open environment, free from crime and disruption.
Eligibility
- This position is available to the general public, specifically U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or individuals who have pledged allegiance to the United States.
This announcement is also open to retired members of the United States Capitol Police and other Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) retirees who qualify for re-employment as Federal annuitants and law enforcement officers. Candidates must have successfully completed the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) or the USCP Basic Agent Training Program (BATP), or an equivalent program from the FBI, DEA, or U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
Key Responsibilities
This announcement will remain active until all positions are filled. Successful candidates re-employed with the dual compensation offset waiver from the USCP can earn their full salary alongside their full annuity without penalty.
**Position Details**:
This role is situated within the Protective Services Bureau (PSB), under the Assistant Chief of Police for Protective and Intelligence Operations (ACOP-P&IO). The PSB is responsible for gathering and analyzing intelligence, assessing threats, enforcing laws, identifying risks, and developing strategies for risk mitigation and member protection.
**Duties Include**:
- Providing security for congressional leadership, including coordinating security arrangements for both domestic and international travel through advance security assessments and on-site protection.
- Ensuring personal security for Members of Congress and their families, as well as visiting officials from foreign, Federal, state, and local governments, and other congressional visitors.
- Offering protective coverage for congressional events such as hearings, sessions, official functions, and other events designated by the Sergeant at Arms or Chief of Police.
Conditions of Employment
Applicants must obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance. All completed applications and required documents must be submitted by the specified closing date for further consideration. Qualifications
Applicants must have completed the FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) or USCP Basic Agent Training Program (BATP) or an equivalent training program from the FBI, DEA, or U.S. Postal Inspection Service. A certificate or FLETC transcript must be included with the application.
Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience in an 1811 series at the time of application, although this requirement is waived for former USCP employees.
Evaluation Process
Applicants will be evaluated based on how well they meet the qualifications outlined above. The evaluation includes a full field background investigation, medical examination, polygraph examination, and psychological assessment. Failure to successfully complete any of these evaluations will result in disqualification from further consideration.
Education Requirements
A high school diploma or GED certificate is mandatory. Completion of the FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) or USCP Basic Agent Training Program (BATP) or an equivalent program from the FBI, DEA, or U.S. Postal Inspection Service is also required.
