Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cardiovascular and Electrophysiology Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Brown University Health. The successful candidate will assist in the operation and maintenance of analytic and re-coding biomedical equipment and instrumentation used for patient monitoring in the Cardiovascular and Electrophysiology Laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up procedure rooms with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies for each procedure.
  • Operate a variety of equipment to monitor patient status and acquire data during procedures.
  • Perform basic calculations of acquired data to assist physicians in analysis.
  • May use computer terminals to enter/access related patient data.
  • Provide related assistance during surgical procedures, including placing blood pressure cuffs, passing instruments, and assisting with patient transfers.
  • Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation as necessary.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and operational integrity of monitoring and recording equipment.
  • Alert supervisors to the need for equipment maintenance.
  • Assure procedures and storage areas are clean and orderly, adhering to established standards.
  • Transport patients and equipment to and from surgical procedure areas.
  • Clean and package items for sterilization.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of supplies in the laboratory, checking for outdated materials and reordering as necessary.
  • Pick up and deliver STAT items using roller carts as directed.
  • Restock supplies in the lab for cases, including cath and EP procedure supplies and anesthesia supplies.
  • Case stocking for same-day or next-day procedures.

Requirements:

  • High school education with the ability to comprehend technical and medical terminology.
  • Technical ability to set up, operate, and maintain analytical, recording, and photographic equipment.
  • Analytical skills to assess the reliability of monitoring equipment.
  • Numerical skills to perform calculations of acquired data.
  • Visual acuity to monitor equipment gauges and displays, read labels and charts, and the like.
  • Physical ability to assist with patient transport and transfers, and to stand for prolonged periods during procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills to explain procedures, elicit patient cooperation, and exchange information with physicians and other hospital personnel.
  • Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation is required.
  • One year of procedural area assistance is preferred, with two to three months of on-the-job training provided to develop the necessary skills.

Working Conditions:

This is a part-time position with a shift schedule. The successful candidate will work independently within the department's policies and practices, referring complex problems to supervisors when necessary.
