Job Summary: We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (nurse practitioner or physician assistant) to practice emergency medicine in an Emergency Department setting. The successful candidate will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services to patients. Key responsibilities include assessing patients for emergency medical conditions, performing initial evaluations and treatment, conducting history and physical exams, drawing blood, starting IV lines, and ordering laboratory studies.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess patients for emergency medical conditions under EMTALA criteria
  • Perform initial evaluations and treatment with concurrent evaluation by ED Staff Physician
  • Perform treatment for critical care patients with ED Staff Physician present
  • Conduct history and physical exam on patients in the emergency department and dictate patient records
  • Draw blood, venous and arterial (ABG) excluding femoral draws, start IV lines, and insert foley catheters
  • Order appropriate respiratory therapy, issue prescription medications, and order laboratory studies
  • Request support devices, including medical/surgical consults, radiological studies, and case management
  • Perform incisions and drainage, insertion and removal of NG tubes, local and digital nerve anesthesia, minor wound management/suturing, and slit lamp evaluation
  • General triage and may perform specialized and supervised procedures if privileged to do so
  • Attend internal/external meetings/conferences/training opportunities related to areas of responsibility
  • Maintain professional behavior

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in either a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an emergency department setting
  • National Certifying Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certificate or equivalent NP certificate
  • Satisfactory completion of approved training program and certification by National Licensing Boards for PA/NP
  • Credentialed member of the RI Hospital Medical Staff
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills specific to the MS suite

Requirements:

  • Submit to a background release form and demonstrate proof of being free from disqualifying information
  • Possess a driver's license and access to an insured vehicle for transportation
