POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly skilled Salt Brine Cavern Engineering Specialist to become a vital part of our Westlake Performance & Essential Materials team. This role involves making expert decisions and recommendations in the fields of brine operations, salt dome geology, aquifer reservoirs, and underground storage management. The successful candidate will lead the development of strategic long-term plans for brine field operations across multiple sites, ensuring optimal salt reliability and compliance with safety regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Formulate strategies and act as the subject matter authority in Brine Cavern and Salt Deposit Management. Optimize long-term development plans for Westlake's North American salt and brine assets. Provide technical assistance to Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance teams regarding salt and brine wells and caverns. Conduct reviews and develop recommendations based on inspections of wells and caverns, establishing testing intervals and maintaining comprehensive records. Offer expertise to address reliability challenges associated with wells and caverns. Serve as the primary contact for managing key relationships within Westlake regarding brine and salt operations. Oversee engineering service providers and contractors to ensure adherence to best practices and regulatory compliance. Guide and audit operations to confirm the implementation of best practices and operational standards. Keep senior leadership informed about project progress and improvements. Develop best practices and enhance the competency of salt and brine sources across all Westlake locations. Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing safe operational practices and prioritizing environmental health and safety.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, or Geophysics (Professional Engineer certification preferred). At least 10 years of relevant experience in brine operations, salt cavern geology, or petroleum drilling for salt extraction. Proven experience in collaborating with contractors and internal teams on brine field management. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficient in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel). Self-motivated with the ability to make informed decisions based on technical data.
