Job Title: Athletic Director
Athletic Director will provide administrative leadership in planning, implementing, coordinating, and overseeing school-level athletic directors and athletic programs for middle and high schools in Newton County Schools. The successful candidate will have a strong background in education, sports management, or a related field, and will be eligible for GaPSC certification upon employment.
Responsibilities:
- Organize meetings with school-level Athletic Directors to ensure knowledge of and compliance with district, state, and national practices, procedures, and regulations.
- Attend national, state, and local conferences to share and receive best practices regarding youth sports/athletics.
- Assist in the vetting and purchasing of vendor products and platforms used by district and school-level athletic departments.
- Responsible for ensuring all school-level Athletic Directors have Emergency Action Plans for various athletic facilities.
- Provide for and encourage opportunities for school-level athletic directors and coaches to participate in clinics, workshops, staff development, and state and national conferences to share best practices.
- Maintain records of coaching assignments for supplements for assigned schools.
- Coordinate scheduling and administration of events/activities, including regular season and playoff tournament officials.
- Review and approve all transportation requests for athletic competitions.
- Attend games and athletic functions as a member of Newton County Schools.
- Coordinate events at NCS-owned facilities, including stadiums.
- Prepare reports as required by the supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with district policies, state athletic association rules, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with maintenance staff to ensure facilities, including fields, gyms, and locker rooms meet safety and operational standards.
- Manage facility rental agreements with external organizations.
- Collaborate with school administrators, parent groups, and community organizations to promote athletics within the district.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in education, sports management, or a related field.
- Eligible for GaPSC certification upon employment.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- 5 years of successful experience as a coach/educator required.
- 5 years of school/district level athletic responsibilities at the secondary level is preferred.
- Consideration will also be given to individuals with post-secondary coaching and athletic administration experience at the collegiate level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) certification.Certified Master Athletic Administrator certification.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Georgia High School Association (GHSA) rules and Title IX.
- Demonstration of strong leadership skills to work as part of an administrative team.
- Able to promote and support student activities as well as staff needs.
- Possess problem-solving skills to support school-level athletic administrators, coaches, and students' success.
- Able to show service-related people skills.
- Verbal and communication skills.
- Organizational skills to balance the demands of a multi-tasking position.
- Technology skills in the areas of office software, student database systems, and office equipment operation.
