POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients and their families, operating under the guidance of healthcare providers. This role is essential in assisting the Practice Director and Manager in overseeing practice personnel to maintain high standards of care and competency in patient service delivery. The LPN will execute responsibilities within their professional scope, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and care standards.

SUPERVISION:
Reports directly to the Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exhibits clinical proficiency in the designated patient specialty and serves as a resource for both providers and staff.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development through continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensures the continuation of effective patient care practices.
  • Familiarizes with and promotes compliance with organizational policies and procedures among practice staff.
  • Oversees patient flow, taking necessary actions to enhance practice visit efficiency; communicates any delays to patients and team members.
  • Organizes daily preparations for staff and materials to ensure smooth operations for the following day.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Welcomes patients from the waiting area, escorts them to examination rooms, and prepares them for their assessments.
  • Collects and documents all intake information in the patient's medical record.
  • Administers medications in accordance with licensure, training, and demonstrated competency.
  • Anticipates and addresses the needs of patients and caregivers promptly.
  • Conducts tests in the office as ordered by the provider.
  • Adheres to universal precautions and aseptic techniques while interacting with patients and utilizing medical instruments.
  • Reports and documents critical lab values, adverse reactions, and other pertinent information to the provider without delay.
  • Performs electronic order entry in the Clinic Information System and maintains accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Capable of undertaking administrative tasks as required.
  • Communicates effectively with both staff and patients.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned.
  • Conducts inventory assessments and communicates supply needs to relevant personnel.
  • Aids in the daily sanitation of examination rooms and clinic areas, assessing maintenance requirements.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Louisiana.
  • CPR certification is mandatory.
  • Specialty certifications such as PALS are preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, particularly in a relevant practice area, is preferred. Leadership experience in nursing is also desirable. Experience in outpatient settings or physician practices is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to follow general instructions effectively.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The role requires various physical activities, including prolonged movement within and outside hospital premises.
  • Must be capable of responding swiftly and effectively to both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • May need to assist in managing disorderly conduct or aggressive patients.
  • Must effectively exchange accurate information with patients, families, peers, and medical staff.
