Join Our Team as a Senior Electrical Hardware Leader

We are Generac, a leading energy technology company committed to powering a smarter world. With over 60 years of history, we've been dedicated to energy innovation, from creating the home standby generator market category to our current evolution into an energy technology solutions company.

About the Role

We're seeking an industry-leading Senior Electrical Hardware leader to contribute to Generac's home standby battery systems. As a member of our team, you'll shape the direction of next-generation renewable energy products at Generac. You must have a genuine passion for engineering products that will fundamentally change the world's energy infrastructure and thrive working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build a team of electrical engineers and create a culture of design excellence
  • Lead cross-functionally and across disciplines to solve design challenges and implement new processes
  • Drive end-to-end process development, including championing Altium 365 tools and advocating for more efficient ways to develop hardware
  • Build a rich environment of innovation, influencing the entire company on technical solutions from concept to mass production
  • Create new electrical technologies that beat competing technologies on market in key metrics like CEC efficiency, quiescent power, BOM cost, and reliability
  • Drive deep collaboration with cross-functional teams and advocate for a culture of inclusiveness and collaboration
  • Hold a high bar for design review rigor and find new ways to 'get it right the first time'
  • Identify and create validation and test tool needs to increase design testing at system, reliability, component, and manufacturing level test coverage
  • Create automated test tools that are reused across the company
  • Lead the development of finished products supporting our revolutionary home-standby battery systems
  • Lead the interaction with major internal Generac subassemblies and external stakeholders and customers
  • Determine product needs and shape the product specification at a system level
  • Collaborate with software, firmware, and mechanical design engineers throughout the product life cycle (from product inception to manufacturing) to debug and improve products
  • Directly impact product time to market with high internal visibility resulting in high-risk, high-reward scenarios
  • Absorb product knowledge to the point of product expertise
  • Resolve show-stopping limiters at design pilot and full-blown production stages of product life cycle
  • Deep understanding of contract manufacturers, part vendors, and fabricators/assemblers capabilities and quality
  • Potentially lead a team of deeply technical and experienced engineers in your subject matter expertise
Requirements
  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience, including large-volume consumer product hardware development, IoT device development, process-driven engineering design cycles, and R&D bleeding-edge technology development
  • 5+ years of experience leading PCB architectures that include mixed signals, UL 1998 safety-critical devices, power electronics, and computing platforms
  • 2+ years' experience displaying industry leadership, such as presenting at conferences, teaching at a university, or participating on a standards body (UL, IEEE, IPC...)
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication
  • Expert in Altium 365 schematic and layout design tools and processes, including revision control, PLM management, and part library development
  • Expert in circuit modeling using SPICE tool of choice
  • Expert in PCB engineering, such as DFM/DFT, fabrication and assembly technologies, strain/stress analysis, thermal management, connector/cable engineering, and EMI/EMC compliance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UL/IEEE/NFPA/ANSI standards
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or the equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability
  • Fluent in engineering first principles in firmware/software and mechanical design
