About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation and Controls Project Engineer to join our team at Affiliated Engineers, Inc. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from designing and implementing control systems for power generation and distribution to collaborating with clients to identify technical requirements and user needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop process and industrial system P&IDs, system architectures, wiring schematics and drawings, specifications, instrument points lists, control sequences, and other associated automation system design documentation.
  • Consult with clients and project partners to identify project technical requirements and user needs, and provide technically sound advice and innovative solutions.
  • Perform system calculations, and sizing and selection of system components.
  • Review the layout of systems and equipment with project team members, project partners, and clients.
  • Contribute to the development of design budgets and schedules.
  • Prepare meeting notes, create and edit design specifications, and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Perform quality review of own work and participate in additional quality efforts as assigned.
  • Travel to job sites to perform field verifications, startups, and field surveys.
Requirements
  • BSEE/ME or equivalent experience.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Quick technical comprehension and motivation focused on client outcomes.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • 4+ years of experience specializing in Utilities, Central Plant, Process, and/or Industrial control design roles.
  • Hands-on PLC programming and Human Machine Interface (HMI) development.
  • Experience with industrial control networks and communication protocols.
  • Experience with CAD or BIM drafting software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD P&ID, Plant 3D, Revit.
  • Ability to travel for client meetings, field surveys, limited commissioning and startup support.
Preferred Skills
  • Wonderware and System Platform integration experience.
  • Allen Bradley Control/Compact Logix platform integration.
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS's) such as Emerson, Delta-V or ABB.
  • Experience with building automation systems.
  • Experience designing validated controls systems for the pharma industry.
  • Understanding of GAMP and cGMP design practices.
  • Experience with 21 CFR compliance.
  • Experience writing and executing User Requirement Specifications and Functional Requirement Specifications.
  • Effective working in applications such as MS Excel, MS Word and Bluebeam.
  • Effective working individually and within team environments.
