Kaiser Permanente is seeking a skilled Inpatient Coder to join our team at our Maui Health location in Wailuku, Hawaii.

Estimated Salary: $83,000 - $110,000 per year

This role involves coding and abstracting patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements, and complications. As an Inpatient Coder, you will be responsible for reviewing and verifying documentation to ensure that diagnoses, procedures, and treatment results are accurately coded.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in hospital licensed space certified coding, with expertise in ICD-10 and CPT4 coding systems. You will also need to possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and verify documentation to ensure accurate coding of diagnoses, procedures, and treatment results.
  • Audit clinical documentation and coded data to validate accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assign codes for reimbursement, research, and compliance with guidelines, following coding conventions.
  • Identify discrepancies, potential quality of care issues, and billing concerns, and develop plans to address them.
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert to other coding staff, providing training and guidance as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of two years of experience in hospital licensed space certified coding.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required.
