Job Title: Senior Rail Track Designer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Rail Track Designer to join our team at Aztec Engineering Group. As a key member of our Rail and Transit group, you will be responsible for leading the design of rail track geometry and ensuring that our projects meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design of rail track geometry for high-profile projects, including high-speed rail, commuter rail, metro, and light rail in North America and California.
  • Develop project-specific documents, schedules of quantities, cost estimates, bid items, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with the design engineering manager and track design manager to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Manage the track plans production schedule and proactively forecast and communicate project development status.
  • Perform QA/QC on each deliverable per project-specific QA/QC procedure and establish project quality expectations among team members.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines during the project design phase.
  • Supervise and mentor junior design staff and provide input on their performance.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate project team members.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in track geometry and track design.
  • Experience with local and national standards (AREMA, CPUC, etc.). Knowledge of High-Speed Rail standards is a plus.
  • Experience with local public authorities (Metrolink, LA Metro, Amtrak, CAHSR, etc.).
  • Proficiency with either MicroStation Inroads, MicroStation PowerRail, MicroStation Openrail, or AutoCAD Civil 3D design software.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Office.
  • Experience with Primavera, ProjectWise, BIM, and 3D modeling software is a plus.

Working Conditions and Environment:

This position will require general supervision and will have to use independent judgment within established guidelines. Generally, uses advanced knowledge to analyze, interpret, or make deductions from varying facts or circumstances. Will need the ability to establish rapport quickly with others working on the same project, and be able to promote a positive team environment.
