Ophthalmic Technician Job Description

At Quadrant, we are seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician to join our team in Baltimore. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and assisting our doctors in ophthalmic procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Promptly and professionally assist the doctor in patient care.

• Enter exam data in charts thoroughly and accurately perform: Refractions, Lensometry, Keratometry, Tonometry, Visual Fields, Amslers, Muscle Testing, PFPIl Exams, Topography, Visual Acuity, Scribes readily when physician requests or practice needs require.

• Perform technical workups, patient interviews, and special testing.

• Prepare patients for laser treatments.

• Communicate with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery, scheduling, etc.

• Maintain and clean all equipment being used. Report to supervisor if not in working condition.

• Return phone calls to patients and pharmacies.

• Assist in minor surgery.

• Assist with studying patients and collaborate on ophthalmic services for research projects.

• Maintain patient confidentiality.

• Efficiently and accurately interview patients and document histories.

• Attend meetings as required by department.

• Use the electronic medical record as documented in the department and/or standard operating procedure and processes.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of professional experience as Ophthalmic Technician - Ophthalmology

• 3+ years of experience working in Ophthalmology or Optometry

• Working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular meds

• Working understanding of A-Scans, fundus photos, nerve fiber analysis, and fluorescein angiography

• Basic knowledge of contact lenses

• Good understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care

• Knowledge of medical instrumentation and its proper care and usage needed

• Utilizes proper eye drop technique and sterility

• Understands and uses proper sterile technique

• Utilizes proper universal precaution procedures

• Understands characteristics of common anterior and posterior segment disorders and conditions

• Understands and communicates well to patients about ophthalmologic procedures

• Understands and follows procedures for surgical and procedural consents

• Demonstrates flexibility in job assignment

• Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals

• Demonstrates excellence in communication skills

• Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with others

• Ability to communicate with patients, co-workers, and supervisors is critical

• Experience with Electronic Medical Records, EPIC highly preferred

• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Certification preferred

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required
