Responsibilities

* Assist patients in understanding their medical benefits and coverage specifics
* Explain medical benefits/coverage specifics, including emergency room visits
* Provide education on the appropriate utilization of services
* Facilitate clinic patient check-ins and check-outs
* Serve as the first and last point of contact for clinic patients
* Operate a multi-line phone system to answer, screen, and transfer inbound phone calls
* Input/update patient demographic data into computer systems
* Identify urgent member situations and escalate to the next level when necessary
* Address lack of understanding, socioeconomic challenges, frustrated patients, and language barriers

Requirements

* High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
* 1+ years of experience working with medical insurance
* Understanding of policies/procedures that apply to patient care
* Knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy to document patient information using standard language/medical terminology

Preferred Qualifications

* Bilingual fluency in English/Mandarin or English/Cantonese
* Understanding of managed care practices/contract provisions to evaluate appropriateness of services
* Excellent verbal communication, telephone etiquette, and interpersonal skills
