About the Position

Tacoma Community College is seeking a highly skilled Art Studio Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Art Department, you will provide technical support and expertise in specific art studio practices, including ceramics, sculpture, photography, drawing/painting, printmaking, and digital art.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional support to students in the art discipline(s) you are responsible for.
  • Work closely with lead professors to assist in a variety of duties, including planning and conducting demonstrations, monitoring supplies and equipment, and assisting with the development of programs of instruction.
  • Oversee and assist students with the safe handling of equipment and tools during class and open studio time.
  • Prepare equipment, materials, and chemicals for class projects.
  • Conduct studio or lecture demonstrations as needed.
  • Inventory studio supplies and equipment and create purchase orders as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned, including loading and unloading kilns, mixing and maintaining glazes, slips, and stains, and general maintenance and repair of kilns, wheels, slab roller, and pugmill.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with major study in specific instructional area or equivalent education/experience.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff representing diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, and learning abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
