Position Overview: We are in search of a meticulous and experienced Project Accountant to oversee the financial operations of our construction projects. This role is essential in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. The Project Accountant will provide critical financial insights and support to project managers and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee project budgets, forecasts, and financial documentation.
  • Track and manage project expenditures, identifying and addressing discrepancies.
  • Prepare and validate project billing, ensuring precision and prompt invoicing.
  • Reconcile project accounts and resolve any inconsistencies.
  • Establish project accounts within the accounting system.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records, including contracts and amendments.
  • Authorize access to project accounts and manage expense transfers.
  • Review and approve vendor invoices, time sheets, and overhead charges.
  • Analyze account totals related to project assets and costs.
  • Investigate project discrepancies and report findings to management.
  • Coordinate with receivables staff regarding outstanding contract billings.
  • Report on project profitability and potential additional billing opportunities.
  • Provide management with updates on available project funding.
  • Generate all project-related billings to clients.
  • Investigate unbilled project expenses and respond to client inquiries.
  • Authorize the write-off of uncollectible project billings.
  • Finalize project accounts upon completion.
  • Prepare and submit governmental reports and tax documentation related to projects.
  • Compile information for internal and external audits as necessary.
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop and uphold project schedules and budgets.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, contractual obligations, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and audits.
  • Maintain organized and accurate project documentation.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in construction or project accounting.
  • Proficient in Sage 100 Contractor accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong grasp of construction project accounting principles.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
