Middlebury College is seeking a highly skilled Catalog Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing expert cataloging and metadata services to ensure the discoverability and accessibility of our library collections.
Key Responsibilities- Metadata Management: Develop and implement cataloging policies and procedures to ensure compliance with national and local standards.
- Cataloging and Metadata Services: Perform original and complex copy-cataloging of library materials, including books, journals, and other formats, in multiple languages.
- Problem-Solving and Research: Resolve complex cataloging problems, including headings conflicts and other discrepancies, associated with bibliographic, authority, item, and holding records.
- Vendor Record Enhancement: Review and enhance vendor-supplied MARC records for batch-loading into the library catalog.
- Supervision and Training: Supervise Senior Catalog Associate and provide training and guidance to library staff members on cataloging and metadata procedures.
- Statistics and Reporting: Provide statistics to library leadership and outside professional organizations as requested.
- Research and Instruction: Staff the Research Desk and teach Research and Information literacy skills in the classroom and in one-on-one meetings as needed.
- Education: Graduate degree in library or information science from an accredited institution, or its equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years previous library experience, including experience with cataloging/metadata procedures, library catalogs, and library systems, including minimum 1 year previous experience with ExLibris' Alma/Primo library services platform.
- Skills: Familiarity with national library cataloging/metadata standards, complex problem-solving and research skills, strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently.
The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong ability to analyze and interpret information, and to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
