We are seeking a highly skilled Catalog Librarian to join our team at Middlebury College. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing original and complex copy cataloging and metadata services for library materials. Your expertise will ensure discoverability and robust access to the items in our collections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform original and complex copy-cataloging of all formats of library materials according to national and local standards in English and non-English languages.
- Develop cataloging policies and address cataloging priorities.
- Resolve complex problems associated with bibliographic, authority, item, and holding records.
- Review and enhance vendor-supplied MARC records for batch-loading into the library catalog.
- Supervise Senior Catalog Associate.
- Provide statistics to library leadership and outside professional organizations as requested.
- Staff the Research Desk and teach Research and Information literacy skills in the classroom and in one-on-one meetings as needed.
Requirements
- Graduate degree in library or information science from an accredited institution, or its equivalent, required.
- Minimum of 3 years previous library experience, required - including experience with cataloging/metadata procedures, library catalogs, and library systems.
- Familiarity with national library cataloging/metadata standards, e.g MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data and Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress Subject Headings, etc.
- Complex problem-solving and research skills involving the analysis and interpretation of information; strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently, required.
