As a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will be responsible for providing low-vision training to individuals with visual impairments. You will ensure that Orientation and Mobility instruction meets contract obligations and professional standards. Your duties will include conducting evaluations, developing individualized service plans, and providing one-on-one instruction to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Orientation and Mobility evaluations and Comprehensive Functional Assessments to assess clients' needs and abilities.
- Develop and implement safe and effective lesson plans and activities to align with Lighthouse's instructional philosophy and achieve contract deliverables.
- Provide community-based, center-based, and virtual instruction to clients to help them develop independence and mobility skills.
- Make recommendations for additional training to enable clients to reach their goals.
- Participate in decision-making to guide the direction of service development and ensure program quality.
Certifications and Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Visual Disabilities or Special Education.
- Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP) (COMS) certification, or eligibility for ACVREP certification required.
