Job Description and Duties

This position is part of the Tax Branch, Field Audit and Compliance Division in the Compliance Development Operations-Labor Enforcement Task Force-North. The Staff Tax Auditor conducts and reviews complex field audits/investigations of businesses and organizations suspected of intentionally operating in the underground economy, upholding the California Unemployment Insurance Code (CUIC) and California tax regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct and review field audits/investigations of businesses and organizations suspected of intentionally operating in the underground economy.
  • Develop and forward lead referrals to Area Audit Offices or Investigation Division for appropriate action.
  • Present and communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to internal and external customers, either individually or in a group setting.
  • Represent the Department at hearings.
  • Conduct on-site inspections of non-compliant businesses as part of the Labor Enforcement Task Force (LETF) program.
Requirements:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of California tax regulations and the California Unemployment Insurance Code (CUIC).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:

This position is headquartered in Sacramento, CA and may be eligible for telework under EDD's telework policy. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California to telecommute. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.
