Position Title: Chief Executive Officer

Organization: Maine Archives & Museums

Type: Non-MLS

Position Overview
This role is pivotal in supporting the Association of Maine Archives and Museums (MAM), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to representing museums, archives, historical societies, and other collecting institutions across the State of Maine.

The Chief Executive Officer will report to the Executive Committee and collaborate closely with the Administrative Coordinator to oversee daily operations. This position is designed to be flexible, allowing for a hybrid work schedule with limited in-person engagements.

Key Responsibilities
1. Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to foster growth within MAM.
2. Develop and implement initiatives that align with MAM's mission.
3. Enhance engagement with MAM's diverse membership base.
4. Cultivate relationships within Maine's archival and museum sectors.
5. Design and promote programs that benefit our members.
6. Actively pursue partnerships and funding opportunities to ensure MAM's stability and growth.
7. Serve as the primary spokesperson for MAM, representing the organization to various stakeholders.
8. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish ongoing programming and long-term planning.
9. Participate in budget development and conference planning.
10. Seek funding and partnership opportunities with other associations.
11. Research, write, and manage grants in collaboration with the Board and relevant committees.
12. Support member recruitment and outreach initiatives.
13. Represent MAM at events and conferences, fostering relationships with members and potential members.
14. Promote MAM through public programs and workshops, enhancing public awareness of member contributions.

Qualifications
- Proven understanding of the challenges faced by Maine's collecting institutions.
- Familiarity with best practices in the field.
- Strong leadership and strategic planning abilities.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- A minimum of five years of experience in cultural institutions or nonprofit organizations.

Compensation
This is a contract position with an hourly rate of $30.00 for 40 hours per month.
