Job Title: School Nurse

The Waltham Public School District is seeking a skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team. As a vital member of our staff, the School Nurse will play a critical role in advancing the well-being, safety, and academic success of our students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Comply with all relevant state and federal regulations, including those related to nursing practice, student health, and safety.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and administer first aid to students and staff as needed.
  • Triage student and staff injuries, illnesses, and accidents, and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Implement all state-mandated health programs and services.
  • Review immunization status for all students to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Provide medically prescribed interventions based on state regulations.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students and families.
  • Monitor exclusions and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Administer medication in compliance with school policy and state regulations.
  • Develop comprehensive nursing care plans for students with special health care needs.
  • Assist students and families in obtaining health care insurance coverage as needed.
  • Instruct students and staff in standard precautions and health education topics.
  • Collaborate with school staff to identify health and safety conditions and develop safety plans for students with special needs.
  • Provide individual and group health instruction and education.
  • Report to parents regarding individual student health issues in a timely manner.
  • Report all suspected cases of child abuse and neglect in compliance with state regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of health service activities and student health records.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to the Director of Nurses and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Advise school staff of students' health issues that may impact learning in compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Attend committee meetings and conferences related to health services and student well-being.
Requirements:
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • MA DESE School Nurse Licensure.
  • Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish).
Working Conditions:

The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, requiring strong communication and organizational skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. The School Nurse will be required to respond to emergencies and provide first aid as needed, and may be required to work in a variety of settings, including classrooms, offices, and outdoor areas.
